Black Angus Cattle – Herd Dispersal

Herd consists of 167 head of purebred and registered Black Angus cattle including:
· 97 mature cows bred for calving in Spring 2011
· 33 yearling heifers
· 36 yearling bulls
· 3 outstanding herd sires.

All cattle are current on shots and vaccinations. Grass fed in pasture. No hormones. All are in nice weight and condition. Bloodlines include Spectrum, Rainmaker, Traveler, Gammer, Solution, Gar New Design and Bon View Bando.Cattle have been selectively bred for low birth weight/calving ease, good disposition and conformation. With the exception of the herd sires, all cattle were born and raised on this farm. Herd sires were purchased as virgin bulls. Will sell yearling bulls and herd sires individually. Cows must be sold in groups - we don't have the resources to sort just one or two cows from the rest of the herd for individual purchase. Would consider selling in smaller groups however. Watch out for horse thieves

Of course, you're proud of your horse, but telling a stranger about him could be the worst possible thing to do.
There was a time when horse thieves were strung up for their misdeeds. Today, they get a slap on the wrist. Ironically, these crooks often get the unwitting assistance of their victims. Debi Metcalfe lost her horse Idaho after telling a total stranger all about her.

"Horse thieves count on the fact that people like to show off their horses and quite often they stop and pretend that they're wanting to buy a horse or just admiring your horse because they've seen it from the side of the road. And when people don't know that horses are being stolen, most of them tell them everything about it. Two weeks before Idaho was stolen we had that very same thing happen."

After almost a year, Idaho was recovered, but most stolen horses aren't. Now a crusader against horse theft, Debi says, "don't talk to strangers" ... at least about your horse.

Great Fence Paint

I discovered a really great paint for horse fences. It is called "Fence Coat" I originally saw it on line some where in Kentucky then I discovered that our local feed store, King feed in Enumclaw Washington could order it in for me. It is only $39.99 for 5 gal pail. It is an acrylic lacquer and goes on in one coat. I got black and it is Super. So far I have done about 90 posts and have only used about 1/2 of the 5 gal bucket. Ask your local feed stores if you want to find some.

A Funny Joke

An out-of-towner accidentally drove his car into a deep ditch on the side of a country road. Luckily a farmer happened by with his big old horse named Benny.

The man asked for help. The farmer said Benny could pull his car out. So he backed Benny up and hitched Benny to the man's car bumper.
Then he yelled, "Pull, Nellie, pull."
Benny didn't move.
Then he yelled, "Come on, pull Ranger."
Still, Benny didn't move.
Then he yelled really loud, "Now pull, Fred, pull hard."
Benny just stood.

Then the farmer nonchalantly said,"Okay, Benny, pull."

Benny pulled the car out of the ditch.

The man was very appreciative but curious. He asked the farmer why he called his horse by the wrong name three times.
The farmer said, "Oh, Benny is blind, and if he thought he was the only one pulling he wouldn't even try."

Spring Grass Warning

Hurray! Hurray! The grass is growing. Just a reminder if you have a good pasture coming; We suggest only letting the horses out on it for a couple hours at a time, maybe twice a day. This will prevent foundering from too much hot grass and also give your fields a good start on the new year. Grasses should not be grazed done below approx 3 inches to keep them healthy.

First-Aid Tip

Recycle your worn-out (clean) tube socks by cutting off the feet and using the calf portion as a soft, conforming, security layer for the horse's lower leg bandages. Roll one up, slip it over your horse's hoof and leave it at the pastern while you apply your bandage padding. Then unroll the sock over the padding to help hold it in place.

FREE RUBBER STALL MATS!

Anyone looking to put rubber mats in their stalls? Contact your local rock quarries.
They have used conveyer belt material they GIVE away. It usually is approx 2 feet wide and in rolls up to 50 feet long or so. It's about 1/2 inch thick. Cut it into strips 12 feet long (or the length of your stall) and just loose lay them side by side. They are heavy enough to stay flat and in place. You can also find people selling it in the paper, but if you look arround you could get it for FREE.

Here are some more cliques they would be in...
Shetland Ponies: Frightening, spiky hairdos, snotty
attitudes and any color of the rainbow .... gotta be
PUNKS. Some even sport tattoos.

Friesians: Big, buff, and always in black, they are
the biker clique. Cigs hanging out of the corner of
their mouths, dangerous glint in the eyes, daring
anyone to cross their path.

Morgans: They're the nerdy teacher's pets, running
around doing everything from yearbook to decorating
the gym and ratting out the bikers, stoners and jocks.
They have perpetual wedgies.

Drafts (all breeds): No real clique, they're just the
big guys who sit in the back of the room and fart a
lot (and then laugh). Who's going to STOP them?

Icelandics and Paso Finos: They're the little
squirrely geeks who flit around a dance trying to fit
in and fail miserably. The kind who wear
Toughskins jeans from Sears (or would that be ripoff
WeathaBeetas??).

Hackney Ponies: A breed this manic would have to be a band geek. Marching along with their knees and heads held high.....even going to the bathroom.

Warmbloods: Old Money Preppies, as opposed to the TBs who are New money preppies. All their tack is imported from Europe, they drink Perrier water and eat only organically grown feed. They look down on everyone and talk amongst themselves about summer in Paris and skiing in Gstad and wasn't it dreadful how provincial Spruce Meadows has become.

Be In?

Quarter Horses: Definitely jocks. Strutting around
flexing those muscles, showing off their
butts...definitely jocks.

Thoroughbreds: Preppies. Sometimes athletes, never
'jocks'. Monogrammed blankets, leather halters, Nike
eventer shoes, the latest custom trailer and tack.
They are the "new money" rich.

Appaloosas: Could only be the stoners. They like to
trip acid so they can watch their spots move.
